Student organization - Registration
Registration definition
Registration is the process that keeps your organization’s details up to date and recognized by UIC Center for Student Involvement (CSI).
Reason to register organization
Registration submissions will be accepted before September 30 for the fullest consideration for the 2020-2021 school year. Groups that submit by that date and are approved will have:
- Access to recognition on the Center for Student Involvement website
- Access to room reservations in the Student Centers
- Access to room reservations in UIC classrooms
- Access to order food through UIC Catering and Catertrax
- The ability to apply for Student Organization Resource Credit for catering
- The ability to apply for a student organization office space in SCE
- Access to student organization mailbox and storage lockers
- 8. The ability to participate in Fraternity and Sorority Life Recruitment (if applicable)
- The ability to apply for Student Activities Funding Committee Funding (if applicable)
- The ability to apply to the Student Organization Funding Allocation Board (if applicable)
- The ability to apply for funding from the Health Professional Student Council (if applicable)
- The ability to apply for funding from the Undergraduate Student Government (if applicable)
- The ability to request a Sports Clubs budget (if applicable)
- The ability to host a bake sale and food carts (if applicable)
- Access to participation in the Fall and Winter Involvement Fairs
- Access to other signature programs on campus
When do you need to register
If you plan to table at Involvement Fair, you must complete all steps of registration including approval by July 15, 2020. For fullest consideration, in the fall all organizations must be registered by September 30, 2020.
Register process
Attend a registration workshop. Workshops will be held throughout March and May. Our staff will walk you through the registration.
Registration time
Once you’ve completed all the steps of registration, your registration still must be approved by CSI. This can take between 5-14 business days, so please prepare accordingly.
Deadline miss
Your organization will be “Frozen.” You won’t be recognized by CSI and you won’t have access to your student organization account until you complete the registration process.

Ways to promote student organization
These are a few ways you can promote your organization
- Information booth
- CSI social media
- Contact CSI’s social media to be featured
- Involvement Fair
- The event is held every semester. An email will be sent out to student organizations at the beginning of the semester
- UIC Connection
- A platform for student organizations to manage and advertise their activities
Student organization - Funding
Type of funding
There are three types of Student Organization Funding:
- Student Activities Funding Committee (SAFC) is the funding for on-campus events.
- Student Organization Funding Allocation Board (SOFAB) is the funding for conference-related fees and organization development events.
- Student Organization Operational Funding Allocation (SOOFA) is the funding for student’s operational expenses.

Funding for events
Student Activities Funding Committee (SAFC) will help you to pay for your organization’s on-campus events.
Request funding for conferences
Student Organization Funding Allocation Board (SOFAB) will help you to pay your conferences related fees up to $700
Request funding for general supplies
Student Organization Operational Funding Allocation (SOOFA) will help you to pay your organization’s operational expenses up to $200.

First, you need to determine your funding type (SAFC, SOFAB, SOOFA). Then emailing orgfunding@uic.edu to schedule a pre-meeting for further steps.
