Join us at Poetry Slam. A space for poets of all skill levels to fellowship and support each other in a competitive atmosphere while facilitating a transformational experience for the audience.
Poetry slam is a competition at which poets read or recite original work. These performances are then judged on a numeric scale by previously selected members of the audience.

Slam Rules:

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The slam is open to anyone who would like to participate.

HOW MANY POEMS SHOULD I HAVE?
Poems must be original and written by the performer. All participants should have 1 poem prepared.

HOW DO I SIGN UP AND COMPETE?
Sign up using THIS form or just show up to the event.

JUDGING:
Judges will be selected randomly from the audience and will score each poet on a scale of 0 to 10.

WINNERS:
When all qualifying slams are over, the top ranking poets will compete in the 20th annual College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI) at Virginia Commonwealth University from April 15–18, 2020. Each year, poetry slam teams from across the county travel to compete for top honor at this event. The top 4 UIC poets will be offered an opportunity to represent UIC at CUPSI.
